Microdermabrasion is a technique that has been used in dermatology for over 100 years.
Although used much less often since the advent of laser resurfacing, dermabrasion continues to be a viable treatment that has been reported to have quicker healing times, similar rates of complications, and is more effective in eliminating some types of lesions, particularly surgical scars.
What are the benefits of a microdermabrasion procedure?
• Resurfaces the skin
• Reduces and clears congestion
• Diminishes superficial pigmentation
• Reduces superficial scars
• Removes dead skin cells.
• Decreases fine lines and wrinkles
• Lessens the effects of photo damage
Microdermabrasion had originally been developed as a means of treating acne scars, however skin specialists soon discovered microdermabrasion was a technique which could be used to treat many kinds of skin problems including scars from wounds, wrinkles, skin coloration and other abnormalities.
It can also be used to treat more serious conditions such as rhinophyma, a disfiguring form of rosacea that affects the nose.
Although the treatment is not a cure, scars can almost be entirely removed. Microdermabrasion can soften the edges of the scar or other skin abnormality and radically improve the skins overall appearance.
HOW IT WORKS:
The esthetician uses a tool with a diamond edged tip, including “sands”; this gentle procedure removes a micro layer of skin, making way for smoother healthier skin to be exposed. This generation process refreshes the skin appearance while these tiny exfoliating crystals sprayed onto the skin work to replenish dull skin, brown spots, and age spots.
